Joanne Morra began her career in the visual arts, with a degree in painting and photography from York University, but her powerful singing voice refused to play second fiddle for long.

For over two decades she has sung jazz, blues and funk across Toronto and the GTA, and has crooned to audiences everywhere from high toned establishments to gritty late night clubs and street festivals.

The Toronto songstress released her debut album Alouette in 2017, a deeply personal collection of classics ranging from Québécois rock to jazz standards, blues and German cabaret. Also featured are original compositions, as well as surprising renditions of French folk songs such as Au chant de l’Alouette and Un Canadien errant, all made magnificent by warm and sensual vocals. The album, self-produced with Eric St-Laurent, is entirely acoustic and delivers sweet, silky sounds that are both melancholy and uplifting.

Her training is top notch- she has studied at various workshops at the Royal Conservatory of Music and Humber College, as well as under the tutelage of Micah Barnes, Howard Rees, Paul Cooper, Whitney Smith, Tom Schilling, and Bonnie Brett.

In August of 2019, Joanne was an artist in residence at Les rencontres qui chantent (ANIM) in Petite-Vallée, Gaspésie, which is home to the world renowned Festival en chanson.

When she’s not singing, Joanne paints, teaches art at a French high school and travels great distances on her motorcycle.

Diplômée en arts visuels et en photographie de l'Université York à Toronto, Joanne Morra débute sa carrière dans les arts plastiques. Toutefois, sa voix puissante a tôt fait de refuser de jouer un rôle de second plan.

Depuis plusieurs décennies, elle chante le jazz, le blues et le funk dans les salles de Toronto et de la grande région métropolitaine, où elle a su charmer un vaste public. À travers son cheminement artistique, Joanne Morra reçoit une formation hors-pair, grâce à divers ateliers au Royal Conservatory of Music, au Humber College et à l’école de musique Shelley Berger. Elle a eu l'occasion d'étudier avec Micah Barnes, Howard Rees, Paul Cooper, Whitney Smith, Tom Schilling et Bonnie Brett.

Au fil de sa carrière, Joanne a bercé de sa voix riche et sensuelle bon nombre de fans, de même qu’elle a ébranlé la scène de plusieurs festivals avec ses interprétations funk électrisantes et endiablées, en tant que leader du groupe The Ambassadors.

Aujourd'hui, la richesse du répertoire de Joanne couvre autant les grands standards de jazz, que des classiques de la chanson française, des standards de blues et de compositions originales, qu’elle partage sur scène en duo, trio, quartet ou quintet. Avec son premier album ”Alouette” (2017), Joanne Morra nous présente une collection très personnelle de classiques, allant de la chanson populaire québécoise au jazz, en passant par le blues ou encore le cabaret allemand. Aux côtés de compositions originales, on se laisse surprendre par ses interprétations de titres tels que “Au chant de l'Alouette” ou “Un Canadien errant”, qu'elle marque magnifiquement de sa voix chaude et sensuelle.

En août 2019, Joanne était artiste en résidence aux Rencontres qui chantent, au village en chanson de Petite-Vallée en Gaspésie ainsi que marraine pour la tournée Quand ça nous chante de l’APCM.

Quand elle n’est pas sur scène, elle fait de la peinture, enseigne les arts plastiques dans une école secondaire française, ou encore, elle se promène à longues distances sur sa moto.
